Meet Devan

Before I started my aviation journey, I wore a lot of different hats. Two weeks out of high school, I earned my CDL and spent the next few years driving and operating a variety of equipment, before moving to Texas. Today, my day job is in project management, with a focus on health, safety, and environmental (HSE) practices. Those experiences taught me the value of structure, clear communication, and applying real-world skills, qualities I bring into every lesson along with a genuine passion for aviation and this community.

That professional background shaped me as a student pilot, and it continues to shape how I teach and connect with the wide range of students I work with as a CFI. Every student learns differently, and I enjoy adapting my teaching style to help each one build confidence and succeed.

I'm always looking to expand my own knowledge and skills, whether that's mountain flying up to Leadville, Colorado (the highest airport in the U.S.), ferrying airplanes across the country, or just bouncing around the pattern in a Cub. I believe every flight is an opportunity to learn, and I bring those real-world experiences into every lesson to provide practical, relatable instruction that goes beyond the textbook.

Staying sharp matters to me just as much as building new skills. I still make it a point to fly with an instructor every few months so I can catch my own bad habits and stay a safer, more efficient pilot.

Outside of aviation, I keep busy with a few other hobbies too, including bowling, working on cars, and making sure my dog stays thoroughly spoiled.
